Since this year I’m doing reading challenges left and right, I figured I’d better come up with a list of what I “need” to read so I don’t flounder around trying to find the right books or whatever like I did the last time I tried to do a challenge. So! I’ve come up with a reading list for the month.
I’ve never had my reading structured in this way before1 so I’m kinda excited to see how it works out. I’m going to try it for six months, and if I don’t like it I’m going to throw it out and try something new.
So here’s my TBR list for January! I’ve given myself some wiggle room because I don’t want to be TOO constrained; I can read minimum 15 books a month if I’m not being lazy, and I’ve only listed 12. Plus there’s some other personal rules in play, like if I don’t feel like reading a book on the list I won’t force myself to do so.
The list! I’ve ordered them by reading challenge, just because.
Children’s Classics
1. Poppea of the Post Office by Mabel Osgood Wright DNF
2. Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery2 DONE
3. Wet Magic by E. Nesbit DNF
4. The Lost Prince by Frances Hodgson Burnett
5. The Borrowers by Mary Norton (unless I can’t find my copy, and then it’ll be something else) I can’t find it! So:
5. Half Magic by Edward Eager READ
6. The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald (for the readalong) DONE
Sequels
1. Monster of Men by Patrick Ness3
2. Anne of Avonlea, which is pulling triple duty this month, huzzah! see above
Why Buy the Cow?
1. Cordelia’s Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold 4 DONE also technically this is two books? Whoops.
2. Makers by Cory Doctorow DONE
3. Time Traders by Andre Norton DONE
4. Catastrophe’s Spell by Mayer Alan Brenner
Young Adult Reads Monthly Readalong (GR)
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater READ
Do you have a reading list for January? Or are you more of the loosey-goosey type?
Footnotes
- except for school and that barely counts because a) I almost never actually READ the books on the list and b) I read “my” books on the side willy-nilly and MOVING ON NOW ↩
- doubles for Back to the Classics and Sequel Reading challenges, too! ↩
- eeeeee ↩
- I’m reading this right now and it’s SO GOOD omg why did it take me so long to read it?! YAY! ↩

Nice we design, it’s fun! I go back and forth on monthly reading lists — sometimes I like them, sometimes I rebel against them. I made one for December and sort of followed it, but haven’t bothered to make on for January.

Thank you! And yeah, right now I still like my reading list but I’m temporarily ignoring it so I can continue reading a series I’m really enjoying. However! It’s a flexible reading list, so it’s no biggie.
I love making monthly reading lists! Even if you don’t stick to them, they’re fun and a good motivation.
Good luck with your goals in January!

Thank you! And yeah, I figure that even if I don’t stick to it completely, at least I made the effort. Yay for effort!
Monsters of Men! Monsters of Men!!!!
Happy 2013

I WILL read it this month, I will, I will.

Hahahaha, oh man, The Lost Prince. That book is ridiculous. I love the insanity of some of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novels — The Head of the House of Coombe is another one. But The Lost Prince is pretty nuts. I hope you love it!

lol, for some reason I didn’t realize that FHB wrote books other than Fauntleroy, Secret Garden and Little Princess? So when I found The Lost Prince I was like MUST READ. So I hope I love it, too!
