Books I wish I had on my shelf right now

I have dozens of unread books on my shelves already, and yet I want MORE. Specifically, I want THESE books:

  • anything Georgette Heyer because there can never be enough.
  • Memory by Lois McMaster Bujold (affiliate link) because I NEED IT. I’m trying to read the whole Vorkosigan saga this year and I need this book to continue onward. I have the books that come after it! But not this one. I’m stuck!
  • more Terry Pratchett books that I haven’t read yet. There’s 30+ Discworld books alone and I’ve only read like 10, so I should be set for at least a few months if I could just get my hands on them.
  • an Emma Bull book with a fontsize larger than minuscule. What is WRONG with these books; I shouldn’t need a magnifying glass just to read them. Sheesh!
  • something like Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell only with lady wizards. Dragons optional but greatly appreciated.

What books do YOU wish were on your shelf?

  1. On that last point, how about Sorcery & Cecelia by Patricia C. Wrede & Caroline Stevermer or Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal (lady magicians, but no dragons in either one), or Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton (all dragons, including some lady ones)?

    • I’ve read the first and the last but I have NOT read that middle book there! Adding it to my TBR list, thank you Nickiiiiiii~ ♥

      • You’re welcome. It’s the first in a series (trilogy, I think?) although I have not yet got my hands on the other two.

Also, I knew I was forgetting one, but I’ve remembered: The House on Durrow Street and its sequels by Galen Beckett? Memory got me hooked on those books, and they’ve got a lot of similarities to JS&MrN.

  2. Something like Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell period! It’s very sui generis, but I wish there were more like it. It’s so cool and weird and imaginative. I have reread it approx 1000000 times.

    • I can only comfort myself by knowing that SOMEWHERE in my pile of boxes is that short story collection with a Jonathan Strange story in it. I haven’t read it yet, either, so that’s exciting!

    • Have you read the Temeraire series? Napoleonic Wars with dragons. NOT the same as Jonathan Strange (which I haven’t read in its entirety yet) but I can see some similarities.
