Bout of Books 13: the tracking post

BoB13It’s Bout of Books time! I’ll be updating this post throughout the week with tracking stats, reading notes, and other fun things.

Monday, May 11th
Currently reading: Lady Knight by LJ Baker
Books finished: None (yet)
# of pages read: 53
Notes: It’s my mom’s birthday today, so I spent most of it (when not at work) at Disneyland! Not a lot of opportunities for reading, as it turns out.

Challenge: Bookish Survey hosted by Writing My Own Fairytale
1. How do you organize your shelves?
I have two TBR bookcases and the rest are of books I’ve read, grouped into vague categories. One shelf, for example, is for autographed books. Another is for childhood favorites. The TBR shelves are basically in order of when I acquired the book, though hardcovers go ont he bottom shelves and paperbacks on the top.

2. What is one of your favorite book that’s not in one of your favorite genres?
Oh man. So at first I was all “I love ALL the genres!” and then I realized no, actually, I don’t really like “literary fiction.” But my favorite lit fic book is apparently Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close because it’s the only one I could find on the first page of my Goodreads 5-stars shelf.

3. What is the last 5 star book you read?
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, an AMAZING scifi novel with android-y people and aliens and other fun things!

4. What book are you most excited to read during the read-a-thon?
I just got a free month of Marvel Unlimited, so: COMICS! All the comics.

5. What book do you recommend the most?
Like, in general? Any book by Diana Wynne Jones.

Tuesday, May 12th
Currently reading: Blue is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh
Books finished: Lady Knight, She-Hulk vol. 1 (2014)
# of pages read: 380
Notes: First half of Lady Knight gave me all the squishy feelings and then the second half happened and there were no squishies and I have yet to recover.

The new She-Hulk series is very disappointing; I didn’t like the art in the first few issues (everybody had squished faces, flat like pancakes) and the story didn’t pick up until the last issue so it was fairly boring before that. Usually the second volumes of a series is when things start to get better, but this first volume was so uneven that I’m not sure if I want to continue.

Wednesday, May 13th
Currently reading: Dead Beat by Marilyn Johnson
Books finished: Mystic: The Tenth Apprentice, Blue is the Warmest Color
# of pages read: 256
Notes: Loved the art in Blue but I have conflicting emotions about the story. Mystic was cute but way too short.

Thursday, May 14th
Currently reading: Nothing. I’ve hit a wall!
Books finished: She-Hulk, Vol. 1: Single Green Female
# of pages read:
Notes: This is the 2004 She-Hulk series and it’s much better than the one I read yesterday! Yay!

Friday, May 15th
Currently reading: nothing
Books finished: none
# of pages read: 0
Notes: I got a new computer! I spent all day with it and didn’t read anything (except a few fanfics). Boooo, me, but yay! New computer!

  1. Yay comics! I’ve been reading pretty much nothing but comics these past couple of weeks thanks to a free trial of Scribd and just finished reading Blue is the Warmest Color.

Ok I really have to read Ancillary Justice, keep hearing nothing but good stuff about it!

    Have a great reading week!

  2. You’re doing pretty well! Did you know Blue is the Warmest Color is also a movie on Netflix? I had no idea. It was an interesting book. So what are you planning on picking up next?
