Chitchat (14)

Hello! Hope your week was nice– mine was kind of blah. I had to work six full days instead of my usual five, and I’m super tired. I think the weather is affecting my mood, too (it’s been overcast/rainy all week), and it probably doesn’t help that I leave for work in darkness and come back home in darkness, either. My job is only going to last for another two and a half weeks or so, though, so maybe for my next job I can find something that starts a little later in the day, eh?

Guess what? My Nook Color showed up this week! Though it’s weirdly heavy, I like it a lot so far. I’m planning on doing a full review and whatnot later on, after I’ve explored all the bits and figured out how to do everything. First impression is that it’s neat-o, and I like the bigger screen for watching videos and playing games. Yay!

At this point I think I’m two books away from meeting my yearly reading goal, which is very exciting! I can totally finish two books this month, although at the rate I’m reading my current book even THAT seems an uphill battle. I keep getting distracted by other stuff? Maybe I need to switch to audiobooks again. Hm.

Christmas is coming up soon (duh) and I’ve finally let myself start listening to holiday music. YAY! Here’s one of my favorite songs, in case you’re bored and want to listen to something:

I’m still reading Turn Right at Machu Picchu by Mark Adams, though at this point I’m about halfway through and it’s AWESOME. It’s kind of like The Lost City of Z, only the focus is divided more evenly between the author’s adventures and the historical explorer’s adventures. Yay!

I’ve also started reading Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth on my Nook Color. I watched the newish movie version and while it wasn’t all that good, it DID make me want to read the original book. I keep getting bits of it confused with Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World, which I haven’t actually read but which I think I saw a movie adaptation of once. I like lost world stories– well, any kind of exploration story, really. Explorers and adventurers and people who go out and look at stuff nobody’s looked at before (or haven’t looked at in a while, etc) is exciting stuff! Don’t you think?

What’re you reading this week?

  1. Hooray for the Nook Color! Can you read comics on it? I love my Nook but if there’s one thing that bums me out about it, it’s the inability to read comics in any reasonable way.

    1. I think so? You can BUY comics to read on it, but I haven’t figured out how to load my own onto it yet. I’ll let you know how it is whenever I do, though!

  2. I can’t wait to know what you think of your Nook Color. I really enjoy mines but wished that it accept audiobooks in WMA format and was compatible with :-/ *sigh* The time change never ceases to suck! My mom comes home after it gets dark and I hate it. I’m a morning person so I’m usually up around the time the sun rises. Hope this week is better than last week.

  3. We’ve only just got the Nook over here (UK) but I like reading books on my Kindle but looking them on the iPad – covers in colour is kinda important?! This week I’m reading Stephanie Cootz’ ‘Marriage, a History: How Love Conquered Marriage’ – quite an eye-opener!

    1. Agreed about color covers– they’re so much nicer than black/grey/white! I’m finding that it’s easier for me to read for long periods on my Kindle still, though. I DO like being able to read at night without having a light on, however!
