Monthly Review (October 2011)

Collecting books for readers in the reserve stacks, 1964

Thinking Back

I think October went pretty much the way I wanted it to. I met my monthly reading goal, I did what I wanted re:posting reviews, and the 24 Hour Readathon went perfectly. So that’s nice! I also got a lot of good reading done this month, and I didn’t burn out on blogging at the end of it. Yay! Oh, and I cut my feedreader subscriptions down from 344 (or there abouts) to around 150. Huzzah!

October is when I started to panic about my reading stats for the year. I think back in January I said I wanted to read 250 books this year. Uh, that’s not going to happen. The best I can hope to do is MAYBE 200, and so that’s my new goal. I’m going to try and read as many books in these last two months of the year as I can, and unless I suddenly get a job (ha) I’m pretty sure I can make my new goal. Only 62 books to go!

I may have to figure out some way to do reviews this month that a) doesn’t leave me way behind and b) doesn’t mean I have to post a review a day, too. I’m already behind on October reviews. Maybe I’ll just do more mini-reviews? Or review notes, instead of proper reviews? I normally like reviewing every book I read, but in July, when I did my last “read as many books as I can” thing I probably only reviewed about half of the books I read. Maybe I should do review vlogs after all…

In November I want to:
– Read five-six books a week. Really I’m aiming for a book a day, but there are some longer books I’d like to read so I’m giving myself some leeway.
– Host the second annual Book Bloggers Holiday Card Exchange (the sign-up post should be up tomorrow, fyi).
– Do some other book/blogger-related event thing, maybe?

Poll Results

I meant to read lots of spooky books this month, but…well…that didn’t happen. At least I read some, though! And my favorite part of Halloween is raiding the after-holiday sales for candy, anyway.

Check out the polls archive page for past polls and voting results. New poll will be up later today!

  1. I see that both of us want to read 62 books before the end of the year. We can do it though I have a ton of non-fiction books that I want to read. What about mini-reviews or just posting your thoughts on a book in a really informal way?

    1. I’m still really fond of my “review notes” posts from back in winter 2009 when I read a ton of books in a month (though I think they’re maybe not so popular with readers), so I may do something like that. I’ve actually been writing down review notes for all the books I read anyway, so doing review notes posts would be super easy!
