Weekly reading, vol. 12

I mean, eventually I’ll get back on schedule with these. For now, here’s what I read for the week of February 14-20, 2016. Dreamspinner had a sale on three Kim Fielding books over the weekend, and I couldn’t resist picking them up. I immediately read Astounding! , a m/m romance between a scifi managzine editor and an alien. Alien!hero is stranded on Earth after coming back in the 1950s to observe humankind. All he wants Read More …

Weekly reading, vol. 11

Totally forgot to post this on Sunday, whoops! My first book for this week was Chasing Death Metal Dreams by Kaje Harper , a contemporary romance starring a transgender PoC protag with a death metal band and a wannabe artist with a history of bad boyfriends. It’s got super hot sexytimes and a slow-burn emotional connection, and you can read it for free! I very much enjoyed it, despite how prickly all the characters were. Read More …

Weekly reading, vol. 10

I’ve been trying to get this post up for five days now and it’s still giving me problems. Bleh. But at least I’ve managed to get SOMETHING up this week! So my reading for this week didn’t start off that great. I thought a short story would cleanse my palate between books, so I tried The Sacrificial Knight by Kestrel Drake , a fantasy m/m romance with dragons! And knights! And, like, way too much Read More …

Weekly reading, vol. 9

Happy Sunday! School’s back in session but I’m having a hard time getting back into “work” mode. Especially since I’ve been sick all last week, and all I want to do is sleep and read books. Bleh. Continuing onward from last week’s Beings in Love binge, I finished up Little Wolf by R. Cooper on Sunday. More werewolves, yay! This time the couple is a heroic sheriff and an on-the-run, sassy werewolf with self-confidence issues Read More …

Weekly reading, vol. 7

Happy Sunday, everyone! I had a very good week of reading. First up, I read a freebie that’s been on my TBR since October 2015. Learning to Feel by N.R. Walker is a (Twilight!) fanfic-turned-pro story about an emotionally repressed doctor meeting an artist and falling in love! And it’s kind of…iffy. See, I like the idea, but I didn’t like the narrative style, and some of the word choices kept throwing me off.1 However, Read More …

Weekly reading, vol. 6

I snagged a month’s free subscription to Marvel Unlimited back in December, though I haven’t been making as much use of it as I have before. So far I’ve read two trade-equivalents, Deadpool vol. 5: Wedding of Deadpool by Brian Posehn and various guest writers/artists , and Ms. Marvel vol. 2: Generation Why by G. Willow Wilson with art by Adrian Alphona and Jacob Wyatt . Deadpool’s wedding was a huge issue filled with unfortunately Read More …

Very quick reviews: December 2015, part 3 (romances)

Happy New Year, everyone! Today’s set of reviews features lots of m/m holiday romances! [supsystic-gallery id=6 position=center] In the Raw – Nikka Michaels Two culinary students meet and, two years later, get together despite issues of class and wealth and homophobic, super-controlling parents. Featuring a lovely sister who gets shelved halfway through the book, despite her being the best character in the book! I have more dislikes about this book than I wanted, tbh. Mostly Read More …

There Will Be Phlogston, vN, The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal

Desperately trying to play catch-up, as always! Here’s three tiny reviews of books I’ve read several months ago. There Will Be Phlogston – Alexis Hall I hated Byron Kae’s sister in previous books because she made her sibling’s life very unhappy, but it turns out she’s more complex than just “horrible bully.” She wants to escape her terrible parents! She feels stifled by society and its expectations! She wants to find love! And she finds Read More …

Glitterland and Aftermath by Alexis Hall

I’d previously read and fallen in love with Alexis Hall’s various fantasy series, but hadn’t tried any of his contemporary books. Glitterland is about a super grumpy1 writer who has BPD/anxiety problems, many trust issues, and an inability to NOT cause trouble for himself or others. Somehow he stumbles across the sweetest (and somewhat ditzy) Essex model to ever walk the face of the earth, and they fall in love. Gradually, and with ASh denying Read More …
