Library Haul (Nov. 3)

I went easy on the library books this week, partly because I couldn’t find that much and partly because I’ve got some books of my own I need to read. (Including Pinkerton’s Great Detective by Beau Riffenburgh, which comes out later this month!) I’ve also still got some books left over from my last haul– what a slowpoke reader, eh? Anyway, here’s what I got out this past week: The Star Trek Interview Book by Read More …

Library haul (Oct. 20)

I am reading SO slowly that I haven’t been able to keep up with my two renewals rule1 and it’s very depressing. I’ve finished two books in the last week, and that’s only because one was a kids book less than 100 pages and the other was an audiobook I’d been reading for over a week. Anyway, here’s what I got from my last trip to the library: Indiana Jones and the Sky Pirates by Read More …

Library Haul (Oct. 15)

I actually got these out last week– huzzah for scheduling posts in advance, eh? The Shadow in the North and The Tiger in the Well (Sally Lockhart #2-3) by Philip Pullman. I loved the first book so much I HAD to get the next two! Small Steps and Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. I had completely forgotten that LS had written the Wayside books! AND I had no idea that there was Read More …

Library haul (Oct. 3)

This is probably the WORST time to have reader’s block, because look at all these amazing books I got from the library! You Are One of Them by Elliott Holt (mystery/historical fiction/YA) Sarah Zuckerman and Jennifer Jones are best friends in an upscale part of Washington, D.C., in the politically charged 1980s. Sarah is the shy, wary product of an unhappy home: her father abandoned the family to return to his native England; her agoraphobic Read More …

I went back to the library (surprise!)

Happy Tuesday! Regarding my post on Saturday, someone must have seen me complaining about the library being out of things that interest me, because there were lots of new books there when I went yesterday. I got all these: Things you may notice: the entire Green Knowe series, which I didn’t much like last time I tried to read it, but which I will surely love now. Because of reasons. Also The Age of Miracles, Read More …

Library haul! (Aug. 27)

I have news! First, I am employed for another season at the place I was employed at before. Yay! I start next week. Second, I went to the library yesterday and got a heap of books! See: The She-Hulk Diaries by Marta Acosta. I LOVE She-Hulk! I’m hoping this’ll sort of be like the comics, only…more text-y? The Wedding Girl by Madeleine Wickham and Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella. I haven’t read a Kinsella/Wickham book Read More …

Chitchat (9)

Last week was a really good week! Well, I mean, besides me getting sick and having to take a day off of work and Dayquil being so frickin’ expensive and also my lungs apparently want to escape my body via my throat but other than that, it’s been great! Here’s why: I got to meet Alita of alita.reads in person! (!!) We (plus her husband1) had dinner at a local BBQ place and none of Read More …

TSS (Apr. 17): Book Budget Totals (Jan-Mar) & IMM (23)

The Sunday Salon (April 17) You may remember two posts I did last year, on how to keep buying books even when you don’t have a lot of money? Yeah, I’ve been putting my own advice into good use. I thought maybe it’d be a good idea to show how much I’ve saved on my book-buying habits since the beginning of the year, to sort of…inspire? Maybe? Keep in mind that I’m ONLY buying ebooks Read More …
