Chitchat (Dec. 23): Winter break edition!

(Does it still count as winter break if I’m a) not in school and b) unemployed again? Hm.) I’m planning on spending my winter break prepping for the new year! (And decorating for what few days remain before Christmas, of course.) First, I gotta clean up my room (again). Then I’m gonna pile all my TBR books together on one bookcase. And THEN I’m going to go through them and remove the ones I have Read More …

Chitchat (Sept. 14): Reading slumps aka I am surrounded by books I don’t want to read

I had a really weird day yesterday, so today I’m just going to relax and read this book and watch Doctor Who and stuff! In library news, I need to get another card somewhere. I went to my preferred library the other day and couldn’t find anything to read! (Except for some Patricia C. Wrede books, anyway.) And since interlibrary loan costs $2 a book, it’s time for me to get a library card in Read More …

Chitchat (Sept. 7): Work and links and baby bloggers

My first week back at work is done! It was kind of exciting and not just because I’m getting a paycheck again. I’m doing something other than data entry! It’s very fast-paced and I’ll get to stick lots of new things on my resume afterwards, so I almost think it’s worth the stress headache I got today. Huzzah! In other news, I’ve started doing a new thing on Twitter called #lunchtimereads. It’s not a solo Read More …

Chitchat (Aug. 20): Letting go is the hardest thing to do

Sometimes selling books is REALLY DIFFICULT. Not because nobody wants to buy them, but because I don’t want to get rid of them! For instance, I recently sold my copy of Wicked Plants via Half.com, and I had to argue with myself for three days about actually sending it to the buyer. Why? 1. It matches Wicked Bugs (affiliate link – more info), which I also have (as of yet unread). The two of them Read More …

Chitchat (August 7, 2013): Interesting links, preorder news & more.

It’s National Read-a-Romance Month! I seem to mostly only read historical romances (Georgette Heyer!!) but I’m going to try reading a modern romance this month, just for fun. Yay! Also, be sure to check out the official website because every day there’s going to be interviews/guest posts/other fun stuff. Huzzah! I was featured in last week’s Blogger Panel at Ink Skies! We were asked “do you think sex in ya is appropriate? why or why Read More …

At your current pace, you’re 9 books (4%) behind schedule.

Okay, so it’s basically halfway through 2013 now, right? Right. Time to look at my yearly reading goal and see what’s up! I set my reading goal at 250 books because last year I read 208 books, so 42 more books didn’t REALLY seem that difficult. Especially if they were small books!1 This time last year I’d read 111 books, and as I’m on book 110 at the moment I’m basically doing okay. But getting Read More …

Chitchat (June 16): Baby’s got a new pair of shoes!

Surprise! Here There Be Books (finally) has a completely new look! Check it outttttt: I’ve had basically the same layout for two? years or so, various permutations of the same theme (Suffusion) and none of it looking “right” (to me). I’d been wanting to give the blog a new look for, oh, six months or so, but finding something I liked (and could afford) was easier said than done. Changing the name just made that Read More …

Chitchat / Currently Reading (May 12)

Chitchat (29) Hello! Happy Mothers Day to all the moms reading this: including my own! Hi, mom!! I’ve been busy this past week thinking of ways to fancy up my blog before BEA rolls around, and so far all I’ve come up with is a) tidy up the layout and b) splurge on the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin (affiliate link). It’s actually on sale right now for less than $20– not a bad price for Read More …

Chitchat / Currently Reading (Apr. 28)

Chitchat (29) I went to the LA Times Festival of Books last weekend! (And that’s why there were no weekend posts. Just in case you were wondering.) I’m still writing up my post(s) about it, but for now here’s a sneak peek: Not much else has happened since then. What’s up with you all? Anything exciting? Currently Reading (22) I DNF’d Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John le Carre yesterday. It’s one of those books Read More …

Chitchat / Currently Reading (Apr. 14)

Chitchat (28) The LA Times Festival of Books is next weekend. The schedule is up, you can now buy tickets for authors you don’t want to miss, and I’m VERY excited. Here’s some of what I’m looking forward to: On Saturday: Writing for Teens & Tweens: Sagas & Series (Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl, Jaclyn Moriarty, Ridley Pearson, mod: Lynn Rutan); Memoir: Close to the Bone (Meghan O’Rourke, Emily Rapp, Rebecca Solnit, mod: Samantha Dunn); Young Read More …
