Guess how many TBR books I have! Nope, it’s more than that.

I saw this TBR meme on a few blogs lately and I wanted to participate! I ended up changing most of the questions, though, because apparently that’s how I do things now. Note: I only count books I own as my TBR. Books I want to read that I don’t own go on my wishlist. 1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile? A combination of a) Goodreads, b) Calibre and c) physically Read More …

Let’s describe books as food.

Thank you to the HarperPerennial Twitter account for the idea for this post! Let's use food to describe books more often. Because I instantly know what you're talking about if you say a novel is a total taco salad. — Harper Perennial (@HarperPerennial) February 3, 2015 So, if I were to describe my last five books read as food… It would’ve been way too easy to pick food that was actually IN the book, or Read More …

Fellow book bloggers: be kind to yourselves.

Every few months somethin happens in the book blogging world where there’s this zeitgeist of panic that bloggers aren’t “doing enough.” People worry they’re not posting enough, comment enough, they don’t have the right social media outlets, a whole bunch of worries. And I understand where they’re coming from! I have worried about those same things, over and over again, until finally I figured out the secret. Here it is: I am not obligated to Read More …

Characters with the same name as people you know IRL = awkward

Does anyone else find it awkward when books characters have the same names as people you know in real life? I do, especially if it’s a family member. I mean, I KNOW said family member isn’t actually supposed to be in the book, but it takes me a while to stop picturing them in the character’s place nonetheless. For example! One of the X-men has the same name as one of my parents. It took Read More …

Categories of adults in Diana Wynne Jones’ books

I started writing this post last year (or possibly 2013), and I’m not entirely sure how to finish it. So I decided to just go ahead and post it instead of letting it sit around in my drafts folder for the next decade. It is an unfinished, unrefined, thinking-about-things post regarding the different types of adults Diana Wynne Jones has in her books. I remember promising Iris to post about it way back when: sorry Read More …

That time I read a book a day for over a week!

2015 started off amazing for me, book-wise! Somehow I managed to read–as in, start and finish–one book every day from January 1st ’til the 9th. And they weren’t all small books, either! Most of them were, like 350-400+ pages long. Okay, so HOW did I do this? Well: a) I read pretty fast when I’m not distracted by my phone/email/Twitter/etc. I ended up hiding my phone in another room and setting my iPad to play Read More …

My reading life: then and now

I thought it’d be fun to see what I enjoyed reading before I started blogging vs. what I enjoy reading now, six years later. Then: 1. Little to no romance, with exceptions made only for chick lit. I usually didn’t like ANY romance in a book if I thought it distracted from the main plot (which was always). 2. Loved paranormal/urban fantasy and dystopias. 3. Lots and lots and lots of YA. 4. Lots of Read More …

The “Would I read it again?” book rating system

I’m thinking about starting to rate books based on the “would I read it again” system. Would I spend time reading this book again, knowing that I could be reading a different, new-to-me book? And furthermore, would I tell other people to read it, too? would read again, will tell everyone about it and push it on people so they’ll read it, too. will tell people about it but won’t necessarily read it again, necessarily. Desert Island Reading List 2015

These are the books I’d want with me, as of right now, if I were forced to live somewhere without access to a library and/the Internet. My primary goal would be to be entertained, but I’d also looking for comfort because I’m on a frickin’ island. I kept it to only one book by a single author, because otherwise I’d just be dragging my entire Diana Wynne Jones collection around with me. Also no omnibuses, Read More …
