The Sunday Salon (Mar. 25): Quarterly reading update

The Sunday Salon.com So March 31st is the end of the first quarter of the year; this means I should be about a quarter way through my reading goal by then, if I mean to stay on track and not frantically scramble around at the end of the year to read two books a day or something. As of today, I need to finish reading about eight books to be able to do that. I don’t THINK I can read eight books in six days– at best I might be able to read one book a day, if I really work at it (and if I read shorter books). But being two books behind isn’t all that bad, and I think once I get access to some graphic novels again I can catch up very easily.

Since right now I (still) don’t have a job, I’m pretty happy with my reading goal and my reading pace. I think, though, that when I DO get a job (and I WILL), I may need to re-evaluate that goal so I don’t try to keep up with something I won’t be able to keep up with.

One thing I’m very proud of right now is that I’ve been putting down books that I’m not enjoying reading. I tend to want to finish reading books once I start them, even if they suck. This year? I’ve been much better about it! Maybe it means I’ll miss out on some good books (since sometimes they DO get better the more you read them), but right now I’d rather spend my time reading books I actually like. Maybe that’ll solve my rating problem?

Stats (thanks to Fyrefly’s spreadsheet!)
Books read so far: 55
$: $30.95 spent (all those UBS trips! Ugh.) | $29.15 on gift cards ($60.11 total)
Average TBR tenure: 85.25 days
Format: 45 ebooks / 10 paper
From: 8 UBS / 12 NetGalley / 32 ebookstore / 2 public domain

The nice thing about only really reading ebooks is that I’m finally reading ones I bought way back in 2010! So that’s good.

Weekly Book Stats

Books read this week:
053. Burn Mark – Laura Powell [rating: 4.5] e*
Proper review to be written later, as it’s a NetGalley book. I liked it a lot, though!

054. The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins [rating: 3.5] e
055. Lord of the Changing Winds – Rachel Neumeier [rating: TBD] e
And for these ones I need to write longer reviews. I have a lot of feelings! And they need to be expressed! I just need to get motivated enough to write them.

Books reviewed this week:
Nada. Forgot to write any! Whoops.

Books acquired this week:

Currently reading:
The second book in the Griffin Mage trilogy, Land of the Burning Sands! I’m actually liking it a LOT more than the first book. It’s got some of the same characters from the first book, but it’s in a different setting and the pacing is a lot better. Yay!

  1. I never thought to see if I’m a quarter of the way through with my reading goal. I’m glad you brought that up. I’m about nine books behind too. Have you found a library in your area yet?

It’s always a good thing to put a book down when it’s not keeping your attention. Have a good week.
