So a few days I suddenly remembered my reading plan for the month. Turns out I haven’t stuck to it very well! Whoops.
I have a mini-vacation between now and the start of my new job, so I’m going to spend part of it trying to cross off a few more books from the list.
Right now I’m about 30% into The Franchise Affair by Josephine Tey, an Inspector Grant book. It’s about a teenage school girl who says she’d been kidnapped and abused by a pair of town weirdos; the town weirdos hire a lawyer to back them up, he falls in love with one of them, and things proceed from there. Grant’s not the narrator and, according to the summary, he doesn’t even solve the case, so I’m a little confused. But it’s a great mystery so far. I have no idea what’s going on and I can’t wait to see the solution.
Next up is, I think, a reread of Cetaganda by Lois McMaster Bujold, from the Vorkosigan saga. I’ve been putting it off because I remember being uncomfortable with the bubble-women and confused about what scifi tropes the story was fiddling with. It’s been almost two years exactly(!) since I read it last, so hopefully I’ve matured enough as a reader that the confusion will have disappeared. Yay!
