I made a video! Lookit!

#dwjmarch Day 1: My Diana Wynne Jone collection from Anastasia on Vimeo.

In case you can’t watch the video, here’s a semi-accurate transcript. (It’s actually my script!)
Hi everyone! This is Anastasia of Here There Be Books and this is my Diana Wynne Jones shelf. It’s the first day of Diana Wynne Jones month, hosted by Kristen of We Be Reading. Today’s topic is to show off our Diana Wynne Jones books!

The first DWJ book I ever read is als the first I ever owned: this first volume of the Chronicles of Chrestomanci. It’s actually two books in one, Charmed Life and The Lives of Christopher Chant. It’s getting kind of ratty and I think the spine is about to break, so I MAY just have to get another copy soon.

Not that I’ll get rid of the old copy! You may notice I have duplicate copies of certain books. I collect them! For instance, I have two copies of The Game: one US hardcover and one UK paperback.

My newest addition to the collection is the second and third books of the Dalemark quartet. I got the first and fourth book at a library sale, but couldn’t find the others. Eventually I had to get the mass market paperbacks at Powell’s; the set doesn’t match but I don’t mind that much.

There’s only one book in my collection that I haven’t read, and that’s Enchanted Glass. I actually bought it when it first came out in 2010 (pe-ordered it and everything!) but I wanted to save it for a special occasion. One of this month’s readalongs is EC so now I don’t have any excuse for not reading it, haha!

  1. I sometimes consider collecting some of my favorite covers even though I own other copies of the books. There are just so many wonderful variations out there (like that UK cover of The Game which is SO MUCH better than the US version).
Your collection is beautiful! Thank you for sharing! (And I can’t wait to read Enchanted Glass with you. I love that book so much!)

  2. Your photograph’s so much prettier than mine! All bathed in golden light. 🙂

I hope you do read Enchanted Glass this month. Because DWJ is better on a reread, I still haven’t come to fully love some of her most recent books; and Enchanted Glass is an exception. I really like it a lot, and I think it’s ineffably Diana Wynne Jonesy.
