Library Haul (Oct. 15)

I actually got these out last week– huzzah for scheduling posts in advance, eh?

Library Haul Oct 12 The Shadow in the North and The Tiger in the Well (Sally Lockhart #2-3) by Philip Pullman. I loved the first book so much I HAD to get the next two!

Small Steps and Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. I had completely forgotten that LS had written the Wayside books! AND I had no idea that there was a sequel to Holes. Yay!

The Silver Branch by Rosemary Sutcliff. The other RS book I’d gotten a few weeks ago was no good– it was her last, and she died before completing it. I REALLY wanted one of her Roman histories, and luckily this one was on the shelf this time. (I’ve read it before, but that was way back in 2009.)

First Test by Tamora Pierce. idk, do you have to read the Tortall books in a special order? Originally I had Trickster’s Choice, but THEN I figured out that I probably shouldn’t start with Alanna’s daughter (even if I’ve never read an Alanna book). Someone has the first Alanna book out, so instead I thought I’d start with the first Protector of the Small book, which has a protag who is not related to Alanna…right?

Sparks: The Epic, Completely True Blue, (Almost) Holy Quest of Debbie by S.J. Adams. A quest/coming-of-age book with someone other than a straight white guy! Yay!

Uzumaki 1 by Junji Ito. I vaguely remember reading one of the volumes of this series standing in a Waldenbooks when I was a teenager– possibly the fastest I’ve EVER read a book! It’ll be nice to read it again at a more sedate pace. Pirates! UK cover

Pirates! by Celia Rees. I’ve flirted with taking this book out ever since I was in college, but I wasn’t entirely sure whether to go for it or not until I read this post at YA Interrobang. Here’s hoping it was worth the anticipation! I much prefer the UK cover, btw. (To the right.)

Chicken with Plums by Marjane Satrapi. Continuing onward in my quest to read all of MS’s bibliography.

Leftover books: You Are One of Them, Cold Magic, City of Ice, The Long War

Did you check anything good out from the library this week?
