REVIEW: Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis SacharSideways Stories From Wayside School (Wayside School #1) by Louis Sachar
Published: Harper Collins (1978), Hardcover, 128pg

Genres: Contemporary Fantasy, Fantasy, Fiction, Humor

There was a terrible mistake - Wayside School was built with one classroom on top of another, thirty stories high (The builder said he was sorry.) Maybe that's why all kinds of funny things happened at Wayside-especially on the thirteenth floor. (from Goodreads)

This was my first foray into surrealism as a child, and though it wasn’t my favorite thing ever, I did enjoy the weird stories of the Wayside School kids. As an adult I can appreciate them even more– they’re sort of like tiny brain-teasers, or brain-twisters! They’re not just surreal, they’re surreal in a way that makes you THINK.

I shouldn’t have been surprised to find out that Louis Sachar wrote Sideway Stories, but I totally was. The author of my beloved Holes ALSO wrote those weirdo stories I read as a kid? Yup, he did.

There’s lots more Wayside School books, and I am for sure going to track them down and read them. I need to stretch my brain muscles some more!
